"Kicks for Support" Charity Soccer Event

This event has been rescheduled from Sunday, May 22 to Saturday, May 28 due to weather conditions. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The players of the MJMF Bangladesh Sports Club are inviting the people of Edmonton to a sportive charity event in an effort to collect donations for the victims of the Fort McMurray wildfire. The sports event is organized by the MJMF Bangladesh Sports Club under the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation (MJMF) in assistance with the Bangladesh PressClub Centre of Alberta (BPCA).

The Soccer Field of the Clairview Community Recreation Centre will be utilized to host a soccer event where players from all ethnic communities in Edmonton are welcome to team up and play against each other. The exact mode will be determined depending on participation. The event will be held between 3.00 PM to 7.30 PM, and the premises of the Clairview Community Recreation Centre offer parking, washrooms, change rooms, children's area, library, and recreational amenities. The Fort McMurray wildfire is now more than 2,200 square kilometers in size and it will take months to secure the region and to end the fire. About 88,000 people needed to be evacuated from the region around Fort McMurray, and about 10% of the city's buildings were lost to the fire. Some of the people only had 30 minutes notice before the evacuation, and all of them need help. As many other organizations in our city we thought to provide people the opportunity to donate while spending a nice afternoon in a sportive-recreational setting.

The Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation (MJMF) is a non-political and non-profit organization based in Edmonton, that strives to support both, Bangladeshi and Canadian youth connecting them with the community through cultural and sports activities. During the last years MJMF has hosted a number of different sports events, that beside soccer included cricket, kabaddi and badminton events.
